our curriculum
English language arts (ela)
We use the "Journeys" program to teach grammar, vocabulary and STRATEGIES for reading comprehension.
in addition, we utilize the "fundations" program to teach spelling rules (and exceptions to these rules!), based on the six different syllable types of the english language.
Lucy Calkins' "reading and writing project" greatly influences our writing units, all of which are ALIGNED with state and national learning standards.
Math
the "envisions" program guides our math instruction, addressing topics such as multiplication & division, geometry, word problem solving, fractions, working with numbers up to the hundred thousand and more.
science/social studies
science and social studies topics include map skills, venice, china, forces & interactions, lifecycles & traits, weather & climate and ecosystems.
